A kitchen should of course always be designed to take into account how the homeowners live and use the space and also the architecture of the property but the kitchen island has become one of those timeless designs that, instead of becoming outdated, has gained more popularity as time goes by and it is easy to see why.

The owners of this open-plan property sought a kitchen that not only exuded elegance and style but also blended seamlessly into their living space. The brief was clear: create a kitchen design that incorporated the lounge area, making the heart of the home both functional and visually stunning. The solution came in the form of a bespoke Stoneham kitchen from the Edwardian range, featuring a smooth painted finish and a thoughtfully curated combination of materials and appliances.
The Challenge
In an open-plan environment, the kitchen and living areas must flow together, both in terms of design and functionality.
The space needed to strike a balance between practicality and luxury. Allowing enough room for culinary activities, entertaining, and relaxation.
The challenge was to ensure that the kitchen would not feel isolated but instead would feel like a natural extension of the lounge area, all while maintaining its identity as a stylish, high-performing kitchen.
The Solution
To meet our client's expectations, we designed a sophisticated yet welcoming solution.
The choice of materials was pivotal in creating harmony between the kitchen and lounge spaces. We chose two subtle colours. Keeping the kitchen practical while creating a sense of continuity.
The main feature of the kitchen is the large island, finished in the rich Vert Cardrum. This bold choice of colour anchors the design and becomes the focal point of the space.
In contrast, the peninsular and lounge units were finished in a soft, neutral Cashmere, complementing the island while providing a serene and cohesive look. The smooth painted finish on both elements enhances the overall luxury and refinement of the space.
Design & Planning
One of the standout features of this kitchen design is the way the materials of the dresser and wine rack unit are replicated in the custom media unit, which blends seamlessly into the lounge area.
The media unit is crafted using the same smooth painted Cashmere finish cabinets as the kitchen, helping to integrate the two spaces while maintaining distinct areas within the open plan design.
To add texture and interest, the design incorporates Anthracite Oak detailing, a feature that runs throughout the kitchen and connects the two areas stylistically. This subtle inclusion of Oak balances the light tones of the painted finishes, bringing warmth and visual contrast to the design. The fluted glass doors add an elegant touch
Appliances
To elevate both the performance and aesthetics of the kitchen, premium appliances were seamlessly integrated into the design.
Among the standout choices were the Neff slide & hide ovens, offering advanced cooking capabilities and sleek, contemporary styling.
The Neff vented induction hob further enhances the kitchen's functionality, providing efficient, precise cooking without compromising on design.
The Quooker Flex hot water tap, offering an innovative solution for instant hot water, completes the package, adding a touch of modern convenience to the kitchen.
Worktops
Another key element in this project was the inclusion of Staron Morning Sky worktops, which were fabricated in our workshops in Five Oaks.
Staron’s versatile nature allows for seamless installation, making it the perfect choice for large kitchen surfaces that need to look flawless.
The Staron Morning Sky worktops have a soft, marble-effect finish that complements the overall design scheme. Providing a refined, subtle texture that enhances the kitchen's luxurious atmosphere.
The gentle veining within the Morning Sky surface adds a level of sophistication while remaining understated, ensuring that it never overwhelms the space but rather works harmoniously with the other elements in the design.
The Final Result
The finished design perfectly fulfills the brief, with the kitchen seamlessly flowing into the lounge area and creating a space that is both functional and visually striking.
The combination of premium materials, thoughtful layout, and integrated appliances results in a kitchen that not only looks stunning but also enhances the homeowners' lifestyle by blending performance with style.
The use of smooth painted finishes, contrasting colours, and rich Oak details ensures that the kitchen is a beautiful and practical part of the open-plan living space.
